The Therapy Place is Ready to Help
At The Therapy Place we care about your child's physical and mental health. We are specialists in assessing developmental delays. Our mission is to help patients in Southwest Michigan live life to the fullest by adapting to illness, injury, or disability.
What is a Developmental Delay?
Developmental delays occur when a child does not meet standardized developmental milestones by the age most children have met them.
These milestones might include but not be limited to:
- Physical development.
- Social development.
- Mental development.
Failure to achieve these milestones may affect school readiness, and can have an impact on achieving future milestones. In other words, these types of delays could put off the learning of future milestones.
Delays in achieving these milestones may impact the child’s overall development, and may have an effect on a child’s well-being. Future milestones cannot be met until the previous milestones are accomplished.
There are several causes for developmental delays, which may involve:
- Fine motor skills.
- Gross motor skills.
- Emotional intelligence.
- Literacy skills.
- Cognitive skills.
How Occupational Therapy Can Help
Our therapists will identify specific causes of the developmental delays and we will work to create behavioral interventions to minimize further delays.
We care about your child and look forward to helping you learn and adapt.
